・ペポカボチャというカボチャの一種です。

・アメリカ南部が生まれ故郷で、温暖で乾燥した気候を好みます。日本だと初夏が旬で、盛夏になると暑すぎ＋湿気が多くてズッキーニには厳しい環境です。

・日によって雌花と雄花のどちらか、もしくは両方が花開きます。雌花を取って花粉を雄花の雄しべに受粉させてあげるのがズッキーニ栽培の醍醐味！花が朝９時くらいまでしか咲かないため朝一に受粉しましょう。受粉ができていないと尻すぼみの実になり腐ってしまいます。１つの花は１度しか開かないためチャンスはその１日のみ・・・！数株を一度に栽培することで雌花と雄花を同時に咲かせる確率が上がります。

・雌花はイタリアやフランス料理で花ズッキーニとして使用されます。花の中にチーズなどを詰め、蒸したりフリットにすることで豪華な一品に！あんなにきれいで大きな花はそうありません！

・葉っぱが非常に大きくなり風の影響を受けて茎が折れてしまうことがあります。風対策をしっかりと！
